It's Finished! Moth to the Moon Updated to Version 1.5!
Welcome back, everyone! Today is a very special day for Sue; this update marks the completion of the game! Indeed, the last two stages and a proper ending have finally been added, meaning that you can now enjoy my original vision from start to finish. To go along with such a grand occasion, this update also includes many other additions and improvements. In particular, the extras menu now contains even more content, including the last two pages of Sue's secret sketchbook, a special version of a previous boss stage, and something else that you'll have to finish the game for! As usual, if you're looking for the full list of new features, check out the included log at the bottom of this post.
In regards to more minor but no less important updates, a few longstanding issues have finally been patched up. I have no idea how this managed to get through for such a long time, but the wand reticule used to turn red, as if to signify an invalid move, when highlighting a conveyor switch (which does not enter the inventory) with a full inventory. Also, in a few extremely specific cases, it was possible to cause two objects to occupy the same position; most operations that move or spawn objects delete other objects that might be in the same resting location, but as an early feature, spawning items in with the wand never had this same failsafe until now.
This game has come a long way since its infancy. The original demo started out as a pretty bare-bones compilation of eight stages and was only really created just to test some ideas I had rolling around in the back of my head. I hadn't intended for it to grow over the years and eventually become a full-length experience, but here we are! Moth to the Moon certainly would not have happened without the initial positive response and continued encouragement, so I would like to thank all those who followed and supported the development of the project.
Now that Moth to the Moon is all wrapped up, it's hard to say what I'm going to work on next. At the moment, I don't have concrete plans to begin another major project such as this one or the previous Dark Space, but I do hope to continue my game development endeavors in the future. It seems likely that I may attempt to develop some smaller experiences for game jams and other purposes, as I've had so many ideas rolling around inside my head that just haven't made the transition into enormous passion projects. This may not even be the last update Moth to the Moon receives, either; there are murmurs of an original soundtrack being in the works, and if players end up wanting for more, those mysterious "future content" options on the menu may even manifest into "post-game" content one day... For now, however, I must rest after working overtime these past few days to bring you all this labor of love. Enjoy!
== VERSION 1.5 CHANGES ==
- The final two floors and an ending have been added to the main scenario, marking the completion of Moth to the Moon! The final boss awaits your arrival...
- Olivia's nonogram puzzles have been added to the extras menu! Did you know that there is a group of ten different nonograms the game randomly picks from for the challenge on floor 40? Once you complete floor 40 for the first time in the main scenario, you'll be able to freely attempt the nonograms of your choice in the extras menu.
- The last two pages have been added to Sue's secret sketchbook! Collect them all!
- An additional special something has been added to the extras menu for players who manage to finish the game!
- Most of the level themes available in the stage editor are now locked until they are able to be encountered in the main scenario. For example, the "dungeon" level theme is first used on floor 11, which cannot be accessed until you've finished floor 8; in order to be able to select this theme in the stage editor, you'll have to finish floor 8 in the main scenario first.
- The layout for floor 44 has received a minor adjustment because a faster solution that ignores multiple items in the level was discovered. The time medal record for this floor has been made a little more strict, as it is still possible to clear the level more quickly than before after the change.
- An issue with the wand reticule erroneously turning red when highlighting a conveyor switch with a full inventory has been resolved.
- Very specific edge cases where it was possible to cause two wandable objects to occupy the same tile can no longer occur. As with other operations that cause objects to move or appear, spawning an object now causes any other wandable object that may be occupying the same tile to be destroyed.
- The sprites of the fixed blocks in the study level theme have been adjusted to be more consistent with the sprites of the fixed blocks in other level themes.
- Multiple minor edits to the game script and the included story in the text guide have been made.
- Sue now has more dreams...
- A special character cameo has been hidden... somewhere...
